WAX or OIL ?
How manufacturers’ pencils differ in their composition
to achieve a balance between softness and a fine point
and also to avoid wax bloom when producing a wax based pencil
This topic is one we keep coming back to, but hopefully in 2016 we have a better explanation
although we still don’t know what most manufacturers use in their products
February 1st 2016
BLENDING WAX PENCILS WITH POWDER BLENDERS
This is a new idea and some initial notes have been posted
in the Burnishing and Blending topic
If you have any personal experience of using powder blenders please get in touch, to add to our knowledge base
Staring with the early weeks of 2016
a number of pages are being revised to keep them up to date
I will be looking at the most frequently used pages first, starting with the HOME page of the site,
and seeing if the layout in each section can be tweeked to make it easier to use and also easier to understand the content.
There will be several topics expanded
I will carry on doing this until I run out of either pages, or enthusiasm
July and August 2015
A full review of the section on ‘SURFACES’ has been started
A range of papers have been tested with a standard set of patterns and a set selection of brands and colours to try to determine the characteristics of the papers when used with CP.
Not all the papers are designed for coloured pencils, but all are suitable to an extent.
The papers are all those available in the UK at the time of testing and include a number of European papers and some from the USA.
The tests are ongoing and may take some months to complete

Artists not generally known for their CP work
This new section will cover a number of artists who are either not internationally known for their Coloured Pencil work,
or who are simply just not known very well and have some interesting Coloured Pencil work in their back catalogue.
I am omitting most living artists in CP as they are quite capable of publicising their own work !

Diary items from the opening page
In order to keep a running record of the regular diary updates, a topic has been set up in the
SITE INFORMATION section to enable readers go back into previous diary postings.
Some of these will be out of date, but there may be some which are still useful.
The listing starts from January 1st 2015
January 3rd 2015
Revisions of the opening pages for Wax Type Pencil Techniques
This section has been extended slightly and reviewed to bring it more up to date
In line with this, some revision has been carried out to the section on Burnishers ( Working the Surface )

Topics Blog is closed down as there have been no new contributions from readers in the last few months.
As the Blog did have a large readership, a new attempt has been made at finding a format that will be of help to readers.
Much of the old (relevant) Blog content has been moved across to the Topics Talk page here, as regular page content.
If you wish to ask a question or seek support or aid with a CP type problem, feel free to write via Email to the contact address and your contribution will be posted up

The Perspective articles in ‘Art Points’ have been fully revised and extended with some new examples

Addition of some tests showing the results of working a small image on to different types of paper
A small selection of Polychromos colours with an extra black and a white working a small still life of a pottery figurine.
Time taken around an hour for each image and a good learning curve. What you see is what I discovered.
I got quite good at the figurine by the time I stopped the test

Complete re-design of site navigation and site layout
There has been some updating of pages, but most of the data is still where you might expect to find it
I have also taken the opportunity to check on images - one or two had become corrupted over time
and the odd one had dropped off the perch. The site should now work better with tablets and IPads.
October 15th 2014
I have re-arranged the step by step listing and brought it - and many of the free standing exercises - forward to the front of the Index
You should now find it easier to locate an exercise in the various pencil types
Brief summaries of updates of content and new items are listed below
in date order of posting
