WILL ALL READERS PLEASE NOTE

This is the OLD version of the topics web site.

It has been archived here at www.colouredpenciltopics.co.uk

as it contains old tutorials and charts no longer included in the new build of the site. This site is no longer updated

This section offers a number of tutorial routes.

1

There is now a separate section for Step by Step exercises

Also, from time to time, we may run a group tutorial via the site.

The first of these was run in the winter of 2009/10

and is included within the site as the ‘Allerford Packhorse Bridge Exercise’.

Others may follow in the future but none are planned at the present time ( March 2016)

2

there are my own courses at Knuston Hall, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire

These are residential, are open to non residents who are able to travel daily,

and are run twice a year in Spring and Autumn

I also provide day workshops to small art society groups within easy travelling distance of Milton Keynes

And finally

4.

There are courses and tutorials run by other Coloured Pencil Artists I know of.

and tutorials in some artists web sites linked to the Gallery section

All Information on courses run by these artists

Peter Weatherill   Courses at Knuston Hall

Update of plans for Courses in 2017

I have my own courses twice a year at Knuston Hall, near Wellingborough where I cover one or more days for beginners and usually a weekend for landscape artists in CP.  The College is residential but has limited single bedroom accommodation so early booking is recommended.

Non residents who can travel easily to South Northants as Day Students are welcome.

Contact the college through  www.knustonhall.org

Knuston Hall    2017  Courses

My courses at Knuston operate on the basis of a maximum of 10 students per course

Non Resident Fees include a full buffet lunch with each day course and tea and coffee as required.

Residents get full board with an evening meal in addition to lunch. Students can book for a single day, the weekend, or all three days as a combined course

NEXT COURSE IS MARCH 2017

….................................................................................................................................................................

March 10th 2017 (Coloured Pencils Basics) day ……and evening March 10th through to Sunday March 12 (‘Landscape’ Weekend)

A Similar programme to those seen in the past

The only difference is that we work on a different picture each time, but there is the usual opportunity for you to bring along something you have started for the weekend sessions.  We cover everything necessary to bring new artists up to speed and re-vitalise previous students.  I have a vast collection of photographic references and many step by step notes for tutorial pictures so most students can be accommodated with a suitable picture subject.

…..................................................................................................................................................................

In addition we have more Coloured Pencil dates in the programme for September 22nd -  24th weekend in 2017

As always, it is best to book early for residential accommodation at Knuston Hall if a single room is required, as single rooms are booked up quickly by visitors on the wide range of adult arts and crafts courses Knuston run.

If you wish to attend as a resident and there are no rooms available, there are a number of possible alternatives - such as staying at a Premier Inn  type of hotel in the area and coming in daily. Knuston Hall can quote you for the course and possibly suggest places to stay

Contact the Office at 01604 362200 for details.

We get a high level of repeat bookings on these courses but will always welcome new faces, From the course run in March 2016, a number of students have already booked forward for  March and September next year

We look forward to you joining us.

DETAILS OF PENCIL TOPICS COURSES

A LISTING IS PROVIDED ON THE Step by step section which should include all the Step By Step tutorials on the site.  Some are embedded in individual Topics and some are listed separately in this section.   Some are aimed at basic students who are just starting out in this medium and some at more advanced students who know something about the basics and are keen to experiment and try new methods.

I will try to summarise the individual tutorials to aid you in your search for teaching at your own standard, but please note - everyone has different needs and what is perfect for one is probably not for another.

Many of my tutorials are Landscape and Still Life based - as this is my preferred range of subjects.  There are plenty of tutors teaching animal life and portraits but very few looking at landscapes.

‘TOPICS’ Step by Step Listing

Busy students on an all day workshop at Maxey, near Peterborough, UK. ( June 2012 )

They used watercolour pencils to complete an Italian scene.  A sample of one of the results is seen below.

Art Group at Granborough, near Aylesbury, UK working on a pastel pencil exercise in February 2013

They spent a happy two hours working on a small portrait of two children searching along the edge of the sea, a picture based on a Coloured Pencil image originally worked by Linda Brand.

NEW PASTEL PENCIL COURSES

with Peter Weatherill

For 2017

A single day Friday May 19th followed by a weekend from that same Friday evening, through to Sunday May 21st giving either a one day basics and a two day weekend or a full three day weekend for those who can make it from Friday morning to Sunday

Some accommodation is available for those who need to travel but the course starts 9.15am and finishes around 4-30pm, so some may be local enough to treat it as a day out. All the materials necessary will be loaned/ supplied, but if you already have artists quality materials, bring them along.

This course is intended to introduce hard pastels and pastel pencils to those who have not used them before and show the different types of paper which can be used as well as a range of techniques.  The media is not as messy as soft pastels and most students can produce creditable results.

Courses are limited to 10 student maximum

Contact Knuston Hall,  Wellingborough, Northamptonshire  on

(UK) 01604 362200 if you are interested

This courses will be included in the Knuston brochures but if you wish to know more before the brochures come out, please contact me.
